4D/15 Service - In the provision of air traffic services an ATS unit receives four dimensional (latitude, longitude, altitude, time) position information at 15 minute intervals or less from suitably equipped aircraft.

4D/15 Tracking - The operator obtains four dimensional (latitude, longitude, altitude, time) aircraft position information at 15 minute intervals or less.

Controller-Pilot Data-Link Communications (CPDLC) is an air/ground data-link application operated at the Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, which enables the exchange of text messages between controllers and pilots. CPDLC complements traditional voice communications, providing pilots and controllers with an additional communications medium. The objective of CPDLC is to improve the safety and efficiency of air traffic management. CPLDC is used to exchange routine, non-time-critical messages at strategic level between aircrews and controllers. If urgent messages need to be exchanged at tactical level, traditional voice communications are used.

**MEL = Minimum Equipment List

- Categorized list of on-board systems, instruments and equipment that maybe inoperative for flight.

- To authorize release of flight with inoperative equipment only when the inoperative equipment does not render the aircraft un-airworthy for particular flight to avoid revenue loss to the operator and discomfort to passengers.

- An MEL is intended to permit operation with inoperative instruments or equipment for a period of time until repairs can be accomplished.

**CDL = Configuration Deviation List

- Identifies external parts of an aircraft type which maybe missing at the commencement of a flight, and which contains, where necessary, any information on associated operating limitations and performance correction.
